The classics
Carnations: The most popular Mother’s Day flower comes in a variety of colors, all with equally delightful delicate petals. They are often gifted in white to mean love, peace, and tranquility; or pink to signify “always on my mind.”
Roses: The most traditional of all flower gifts, where color has the most special significance. Red for love, pink for gratitude, yellow for friendship, or cream for appreciation. You can express your feelings towards mom perfectly with a bouquet of beautiful roses.
Lilies: A popular choice which comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. The pointed, downward-curling petals of oriental lilies make a great impression in a bouquet. Lilies also have a strong fragrance sure to tickle your senses.
When color is key
Tulips: Is there a more colorful flower than the classic spring tulip? These bulging blooms come in a rainbow of colors, but a popular choice is yellow, meaning “sunshine in your smile.” If your mom enjoys a big splash of color, then why not get a mix of all shades, which is sure to bring a smile as bright as the bouquet itself.
Gerbera daisies: These flowers just radiate cheerfulness – if your mom does too, then they’re the perfect option. Like a mini sunflower, these blooms stand tall and proud with a gorgeous double layer of petals in vibrant colors.
Sunflowers: Most commonly seen standing tall in fields, sunflowers can actually create a delightful bouquet. Keep it simple with plenty of full flowers on their own or create a little more interest with added foliage or secondary filler flowers in a complementary color.
If she prefers her flowers growing in the garden:
Magic Muscari Bulb Garden: If your mother likes to watch her flowers grow, a bulb garden of
Muscari, or grape hyacinths, can be a perfect solution. The grape-like clusters look great in a deep purple shade, mixed in with some white. Choose a pot mom will love to look at, and she can enjoy these blooms for several weeks.
Orchids: Orchids symbolize love, beauty, and strength. With the gift of an orchid, mom can enjoy a plant which can sit on her windowsill all year round. Since the plant is considered by some to be notoriously difficult, make sure to provide care instructions if your mother doesn’t have a naturally green thumb.
Potted hydrangeas: A potted hydrangea can make an excellent gift. With big, bold clusters heavy with petals, these plants offer plenty of color and fragrance. After enjoying them on the windowsill for a few weeks, they can be planted outside for delight in years to come. What better way to remind your mother how much she means to you?
